His primary objective was to provide good management and expertise for the planting and maintenance of coconut, tea and rubber plantations. Initially his office catered mostly for the estates owned by himself and his extended family. After his death in 1930 his eldest son L J M Peiris also a graduate at St. John’s College Cambridge took over the business as a sole proprietorship like his father. Later it became a partnership and in 1955 it was incorporated as a limited liability company.
